HIGH GLEN -GENESIS-
Fruity booty, broody woody and fine wine
The nose was initially a cricket bat in the face or being dragged head first through an oak forest on a wooden cart – but then it settled down to crumbled walnuts and after that the fruit appeared – rhubarb rock and a red apple for Snow White; soon a more modern Snow White enjoyed orange and strawberry sherbet and eventually the grown-up version was sipping Zinfandel rosé and eating apricots in syrup.
The palate was all wood and fruit – fruits of the forest from a wicker basket, apricot jam on a wooden spoon, ice-lolly sticks etc. Some wine notes curled around the fruit and wood – oranges preserved in brandy or supping chilled tawny port from a half melon. The finish was a bit like biting soft leather in a humidor, but leave it in the mouth longer and you’ll find sweet chilli and pink pickled ginger.
